Celebrate the 300th Birthday of the Parson Barnard House in North Andover this weekend with the North Andover Historical Society! There will be an open house and a party at 179 Osgood Street on Saturday September 5th. Tour the open house FREE from 11am to 3pm and don’t miss the party with live colonial era music and costumed interpreters explaining the history of the house, all starting at 1pm. Cupcakes will be served between 4-5pm.

1 pm: Series of Informal Presentations
3 pm: House closes; Three Cups of Tea musical group

Trails & Sails is coordinated by the Essex National Heritage Commission (Essex Heritage), the nonprofit management organization for the Area that rallies our community around saving its unique character. Their mission is “to preserve and enhance the historic, cultural and natural resources of Essex County.”

Trails & Sails raises regional awareness of Essex County’s resources, encourages visitation, and fosters stewardship and preservation of its heritage sites. Explore the many cultural, historic, and natural sites during two weekends of FREE events featuring a variety of walks, guided hikes, sails, historical tours, and adventures on September 18-20 and 25-27!

National Night Out in North Andover is the BIGGEST PARTY of the year!

Date: Tuesday August 4, 2015

The North Andover Police Department and Neighborhood CrimeWatch are inviting residents to join them for National Night Out. This is an annual event featuring food, music, and lots of fun and games for kids and the entire family. There will be face painting, crafts, and endless activities. Have you ever wanted to climb aboard a fire truck? Have you ever seen a Police K-9 demonstration? Then National Night Out in North Andover is your night! In addition, the night will also serve to show adults and families just what their Police and Fire Departments are doing to keep North Andover safe.

Do you love having fresh cut flowers in your home? If so, you won’t want to miss opening Day for The Flower Cutting Garden at The Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover!

The Stevens-Coolidge Place is a property of The Trustees of Reservations in North Andover. It’s a signature example of an estate designed in “The Country Place” style. Helen Stevens of North Andover inherited the property, and after her marriage to John Gardner Coolidge the property became their summer home. Around 1914, she and John began the decades-long transformation of the farm into an elegant agricultural estate. They filled their country house with art and furniture from their trips around the world and hired an architect to remodel the Italianate style home into the Colonial Revival style that stands today. They also added the walled rose garden, greenhouse, serpentine brick wall and potager garden (or French vegetable garden) that exist today.

The annual 4th of July Road Race in North Andover is back again this year! Since 1979 this race has drawn hundreds of runners, and it’s fun for the whole family. You can choose to run or walk a 10k, 5k, or a kids fun run which is approximately .6 miles. If you’re thinking of registering, do it soon because the first 800 registrants for the 5k & 10k are guaranteed a race shirt!

The Stevens Memorial Library has so many programs for kids and families to take advantage of this summer. All of these programs, activities and events are free of charge.

The town of North Andover has a goal for residents to read 1,000,000 minutes this summer. To give kids incentive, the library will hold weekly drawings for kids ages 4-12 to win prizes for reading! The Stevens to Stevens Trail North Andover is a new 1.3 mile trail that links the Stevens-Coolidge Place to Weir Hill. Beginning at the Stevens-Coolidge Place, the trail continues down Andover Street, across North Andover Town Common, and up and over numerous lots donated to The Trustees of Reservations by the Stevens family, along the Town Beach and into the Weir Hill Reservation. The construction of this important linkage was funded by the Community Preservation Act. It is now complete and ready to be enjoyed.

Celebrate the opening and go for a walk along this wonderful new trail that brings the community together. The ribbon cutting will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 1:00pm – 3:00pm at The Stevens-Coolidge Place 137 Andover St North Andover, MA. An informative walk along the trail will begin shortly there after. Refreshments will be available along the trail.
